Hand Hugs

A year or so ago we got the kids loft beds. The assembly process aside, they have been great - more floor space, a jungle gym of sorts for Nathan to swing from, and easier to vacuum in a hurry. The only drawback - makes the bed-time routine a bit tough. It is hard to tuck someone in and kneel by their bed when the mattress is 18 inches above your head. So sometimes I climb up on their dressers so I can actually see them. But mostly the girls have created "Hand Hugs". After 30 minutes or so of very chatty and giggly "reading", I go in to tell them good night. I raise my hands up to them and they kiss my fingers and I tell them I love them. Then they drape their arms down over the rail as far as they can reach (my wife hates that part) and I kiss their fingers and they call me some silly version of Daddy. Then we all three squeeze and bingo - "Hand Hugs". I only hope they love it half as much as I do.

How about you? What is the bedtime ritual with your kids? How do you let them know, at the end of the day, that you will always love them?
